On the one hand, there’s so much to do to get ready for little one to join us—it’s been a while since we’ve had a newborn! I’m spending most of my free time writing and nesting, nesting and writing.

And then on the other hand, I’m feeling pretty ready to have my body back. And by that, I mean just to be done literally sharing it with another being. You start to miss things after a while like being able to breathe when you lay on your back or not getting indigestion for eating a few grapes.

Overall, there’s so much to be thankful for. Each little inconvenience is a blessing and I’m happy they’re there. I’ll also be happy when they’re over. For now, I’m just savoring being a mom of “older kids” (8 and going on 6) that can grab their own snacks from time to time and put on their own shoes. We’re going to be heading back to square one in a couple months and I’m sure there’s a lot we’ve forgotten!

But in the process of meeting everyone else’s needs and neglecting our own (especially our need for rest), we often become bitter towards the ones we’re helping.

Instead, one of the best things we can do as a wife or mother is to assess our own needs and make sure to leave space to meet them ourself or to ask for what we need.

It might be time to rest, help with the next meal, time alone to pray and meditate on God’s word, or allowing yourself to leave a task un-done so you can “selfishly” enjoy a hobby of yours like the rest of your family gets to do.

In the end, making room to find joy each day may be one of the best things you do for your relationships.

My Cold Weather Nordstrom Holiday Gift Guide!

My Favorite Looks for staying Cozy and Warm this Winter
This collaboration was sponsored by Nordstrom and ShoppingLinks. All opinions are my own.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t STAND the cold. And becoming a mom has only multiplied my bitterness towards frosty weather. Who wants to chase children around in freezing cold weather (especially when it’s almost as though they never even feel it)? Not me.

However, I have come to appreciate the diversity in the seasons where we live, and with that diversity, comes some cold weather. What are you gonna do?

I’ve come to find that making the most of it and being prepared can really make all the difference. Seriously, what a difference a good coat can make!

I’m absolutely floored by the selection Nordstrom has to offer. If I had the chance to pick and choose my favorite brands and put them all in one store, Nordstrom would have beat me to it.

The other day, I was so excited to go sweater and coat shopping with Josh that I decided to make a cold-weather gift guide for you all of some of my favorite things that I tried on! Check them out below.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t leave with this BP. Crop Puffer Jacket, but I wish I did. I loved the fit and color so much. This is exacly why I love taking photos of what I try on so I can remember to go back to the favorites that I may have left behind 😉 Definitely going to snag this one over Black Friday.

I love the functionality and cut of this Halogen PuffeFkenner Jacket! So much warmth without feeling like I have tons of layers on. I think what I love best about this jacket is how it transitions from athletic wear to everyday wear!

J.CREW Wintress Belted Down Puffer Coat J.CREW Wintress Belted Down Puffer Coat

J.CREW Yuna Teddy Faux Fur Jacket

These coats are both from my one of my favorite brands- that’s right- J. Crew. Of course, each of these jackets themselves are very different. The first (green) is called the J.Crew Wintress Belted Down Puffer Coat. I love the belt that I can tie around my waist as if to say, “Not today, Cold!” as well as the hood for the notoriously wet Washington winters! Also, the color is so pretty!

The second coat, the J.Crew Yuna Teddy Faux Fur Jacket, is perfect for layering up while still keeping it classy and pretty. I love to imagine myself wearing this Sunday morning and then again on date night!

Kenneth Cole New York Wool Blend Boucle Coat Kenneth Cole New York Wool Blend Boucle Coat

This Kenneth Cole New York Wool Blend Boucle Coat is another on the dressier side but can still be worn with an everyday pair of jeans and boots. I absolutely loved the color of this! Having other pieces in this color, I’ve learned that even though it’s a peachy pink, it’s actually super versatile and goes with so much!!

This coat is actually temporarily sold out. So check back for a restock! But in the meantime, here are some similar jackets:

  • Kenneth Cole New York Pressed Boucle Coat
  • MARC NEW YORK Pressed Boucle Coat
  • Gallery Boucle Coat

Levi's Ex-Boyfriend Denim Trucker Jacket

I’ll be honest, I’ve never owned a denim jacket that I really liked. This one, I love. I love the cut and the fact that it doesn’t feel super stiff when I wear it. I love how it pairs so well with so many things in my closet. And love that it’s a Levis because if there’s anyone I trust when it comes to denim, it’s them. This jacket is called the Levi’s Ex-Boyfriend Denim Trucker Jacket.

I’m also wearing this with a Madewell Flannel Courier Shirt, Madewell 9-Inch Button High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans, and the Madewell The Charley Bootie Do you think I like Madewell?? It’s more or less of an obsession.

Ok, last jacket!
Zella Cozy Up Bomber JacketZella Cozy Up Bomber Jacket
This is the Zella Cozy Up Bomber Jacket, and after trying it on, I couldn’t leave without it! I wear this thing daily. In the house. Out of the house. To the gym. In the mountains. Errrrrywhere. I never want to take it off! I also love the colors they have available! This “Grey Urban” and “Burgundy Crush” are my favorites.

We also ended up doing a sweater try-on and these were some of our combined favorites:

Free People Softly Structured Knit Tunic Madewell Pleat Shoulder Pullover Sweater

Free People Softly Structured Knit Tunic | Madewell Pleat Shoulder Pullover Sweater | Topshop Long Open Front Cardi

Don’t forget those toes!

Sperry Saltwater Rain Boot Oyster

I actually just ordered these Sperry Saltwater Rain Boot in Oyster and I am so excited for them to come in!!

Madewell Charlie Boot

As seen above, I’ve owned the Madewell Charlie Boot for a couple months now and they are amazing. They go with just about everything and I really feel like they bring every outfit up a level, if that makes sense. They’re just so cute and go perfectly with my style!

Jeffrey Campbell Cloudy Waterproof Chelsea Rain Boot

You’ll see me wearing these Jeffrey Campbell Cloudy Waterproof Chelsea Rain Boots in the very last photo below. I love how these are rain boots but they don’t really look like rain boots, ya know?? I also love the platform heel on these!

Ugg Jeovana Waterproof Genuine Shearling Lined

Lastly, how cute are these?!! Everyone needs a dressy boot for winter and these would be perfect for those cold night dates! I love every color these UGG Jeovana Waterproof Genuine Shearling Lined Boots come in!

Nordstrom is seriously THE place to go for all holiday gifts and necessities! Whenever I walk in, I am floored by their attention to detail and customer service. It is seriously the best! Not to mention they have every single one of my favorite brands!
Nordstrom has some AMAZING Black Friday deals going on right now and if you want to save while getting the best their is, head over there now while items are still in stock!
Check out some of the looks below that I created with the pieces that I took home from Nordstrom!
** For reference I’m 5’4″, bust 32, waist 25, 127lbs with an athletic/proportionate build.

So I know Black Friday is just a few days away but this year I really wanted to create a gift guide that would help so many of the people who are our friends and neighbors. So… I created a gift guide featuring *only* shops on Etsy. Pssst. #7 comes from my parent’s Etsy shop! I’m so excited to share this with you because I hand-picked all of the items on this list AND I know they’ll support families like yours and mine this holiday season. #ad It doesn’t always come naturally to ask for help, but stressful feelings can sometimes come from the idea that if we don’t do it ourselves, then it won’t get done (/right). Sometimes being able to open up to the idea that things can happen in ways other than we originally imagined (ie. spending family time over a home-cooked meal that took time that you didn’t have to make vs. spending family time over a meal that was brought to your home), can be really freeing. When Josh and I are feeling overwhelmed with our to-do list for the day, we start to look for things we can cut out in order to make it easier and have a better day overall. @bitesquad gives us a chance to delegate our meals to someone else while we worry about spending more time with the kids, or finishing up work projects for the day. I love knowing that even time escapes me, I still have great options like @bitesquad right at my fingertips. Why not give it a try this week and let me know what you thought!
